Lifou - Loyalty Islands

We sailed overnight from Noumea on Grande Terre round to Lifou, a fairly undeveloped island in the Loyalty Islands group.

There's no proper dock so we had to anchor and use tenders.  Celebrity are very well organised and the tendering worked smoothly.

We wanted to have a swim if possible and also to walk up to the Chapelle de Notre Dame de Lourdes.  Would it be a climb too far, we wondered?

There's only one problem with taking selfies on my phone - you can't zoom in and out and you can't use a flash.  Otherwise it's perfect!

And here it is from the inside

The path up was steep but lots of cruise passengers were happy to make the climb

Pity about the missing S at the end of Lourdes!

We were keen to have a go at snorkelling at this beach, but there was no beach as such and they were charging Aus $15 (£8 each) to go into the water

We each went for a swim, although it was hard to swim as it was so shallow and then got shallower as you went further out as there was a sand bar there

I then went in for a swim but it was shallow.  I spoke to a couple from Australia but our conversation was cut short when a sea snake bit the wife.  I beat a dignified but fairly hasty retreat!!
