Lautoka, our second stop on Fiji

This was a much better day than yesterday.  The roads yesterday were very bumpy and the coach had no air conditioning but today was more pleasant on both counts.

In some respects there isn't a lot to see on Fiji from  tourist point of view so the cruse line's shore excursions have to make the best of it.  Our guide today was also much better and told us a lot about the way of life on Fiji.

There's clearly a lot of poverty about - as well as some conspicuous wealth -  and we wondered what the place must have looked like when the Queen visited Fiji as part of her grand Commonwealth tour when she acceded to the throne 60 years ago

Welcome party at our first excursion stop

We stopped at a lovely marina for refreshments and demonstrations

There's the usual proportion of large people cruising with us

Coconut juice - yuk!

The man on the left is preparing to milk a coconut and the one on the right is making a basket

For wife beating we were told - but if you have 80+ wives it could become a bit of a chore!

Typical chief's house - but usually with a thatched roof

Sugar cane - big business on Fiji.  The second largest crop is the production of tapioca

Oh no, not here as well?!

Largest Hindu temple in the South Pacific
We didn't go in - dress code about as strict as that for a mosque - plus they charge to go in
Fiji - part of the Commonwealth
I could add lots more photos of the landscapes of Fiji.  If you'd like to see more, please say.
